I won't be using the games that came with my pre-installed XP Home Edition.
Is it possible to remove these, I only have 'Recovery Discs' in my
possession which includes a the XP HE which is what I have to use if I
reformat my hard disc and everything loads back. I'm presuming that when I
go to un-install these items it may ask for my XP discs so I am also
presuming that it is the Recovery Discs I would have to use but which 1 of
the 2 I don't know.

U are very funy ;). U shold try the first one, if that dosent work, try with another.U can't do mess on PC
PS: dont look at my english I'm from Slovenija (near Italy) ;) .

Excuse me for asking before trying something 'that could mess up' my laptop.
Only had it since Christmas and had to format the computer twice already.
Last time was Thursday night after Toshiba decided my laptop needed
collecting on Friday morning under warranty as there was obviously a problem
with my hard drive. I formatted the drive prior to it going away and found
that the problem (the fact that I had only 13gb of a 40gb hard drive unused)
had rectified. I have loaded everything back and I have 33gb left as
expected. So believe me the PC can get messed up without knowing why!!

You can uninstall the games with no issues.

Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components

Highlight "Accessories and Utilities" -> Click on the Details button.
Uncheck "Games" -> Click OK
Click Next
Wait.
Clcik Finish.
Close all windows.

Games should be gone - at least Windows Native ones.

Thanks for that Shenan. Would it be the same process for if I wanted to add
a component that had only had part of it installed and I wanted to install
the rest of it. I know with W98SE it always asked for the original discs to
do that and of course I only have Recovery Discs. Thanks for your help,
much appreciated.

Unfortunately.. You need the original install CD.
Perhaps the "Recovery CDs" you have can stand in for that or perhaps they
copied the meat of the Windows XP install files to your PC somewhere..
Otherwise you would have to borrow someone elses CD in order to add
components to your XP that come with it that you have removed or just want
to add because it wasn't there originally.

This is a disadvantage of an OEM copy (they choose how your system can be
recovered.) =(

It's unfortunate that when we purchase a laptop we are not given the option
of having it with original CDs even if we have to pay a little extra. I
would have preferred that.

It's a function of the vendor. Seek a vendor that will sell you a
non-OEM version of the OS.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

If your OEM provided system restore CD, the OEM likely copied the Windows XP
installation files to your hard drive in the folder: C:\Windows\I386.
Normally this is not a hidden folder. If you have I386 folder you should
not be asked for the Windows XP CD when you uninstall/install Windows XP
components. If you are, just browse to the I386 folder.

I have a folder I386 but it is not situated in C:\Windows it is just
C:\I386. It has loads of files in it. In W98 when you opened up a folder,
in the right hand pane it listed all the folders, files within the folder.
At the bottom of the right hand pane it also totalled the files at the
bottom of the pane to give the total size but XP doesn't appear to do that
or am I just missing selecting something?

Go to Windows Explorer > View and check the status or state bar, the
one above the explorer bar. It will then show the size.
