game/system restore problem

I have a game loaded on my computer from a disc that has played well for like
ever. suddenly yesterday, it came up with an error window saying "menu index
out of range" when it tries to load. Assuming something wierd had happened
to my computer, I tried System Restore but it would not allow me to go back
to any earlier date. I tried the same thing today & it will do the same, not
allowing me to go back to June 2006 restore points and shows no restore
points today or yesterday.

I am not extremely comfortable with registry items but if someone can come
up with a walk-thru of what I might be able to do to correct all of this, I
would appreciate it.

I have tried to uninstall/install the game from the "add/Remove" but
uninstallwise will not respond.

Ok-booted to safe mode & put in command you gave me. It brought me to system
restore but it would still not allow me to go back to a time earlier than
today. Now what?

Well;I am not sure what command did you use because I haven't mentioned
any such in my original post.I just mentioned the site's URL.
Vist the mentioned site[http://bertk.mvps.org/] as it's a very good one
as far as System Restore is concerned.
On the left side there is a menu where you have to scroll down
to:"Missing Restore Points".

Best bet is to suggest things that you have tried over and over again and
especially via trial and error.

Sorry - I was slightly confused - too much going on at the same time. I was
following the command on the website you mentioned:
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

It got me to system restore in safe mode but still would not let me go back
farther than the same day.

I will go back to the site & try the "missing restore points" link you
mentioned & see what happens there.
