Game Controller Hardware Problem

Alright heres my problem, my Gravis connections in the Game controllers
Settings in the control panel have been deleted.... this i dont know how it
happend but they just disappeared. Anyway i recently reformated my computer
and was putting everything back on and well apparently when i was installing
something my Autoexec.NT file was deleted.... this i dont know how it happend
so i got that sent to me by a friend. So i could finally run the gravis cd on
my computer (requires windows 95 and compatibility mode wasnt working) Well i
installed the drivers since it connectes to the sound card rather then usb.
Well when i went to find my drivers in windows they were gone, but yet about
2 days befor that they were there. Any ideas? Ive tried removing the Joy.CLP
file and replacing it... nothing. Should i just delete it and replace it? or
any other ideas?
 
First, this controller you are talking about must connect through the
MIDI port on your sound card. The drivers for my Gravis controller are
included with Windows XP, so you should only have to choose the Add
Hardware and add it. Using compatibility mode with those old drivers
could have really messed things up. Also, by deleting the Joy.cpl file,
you have removed the Game Contollers Options from the Control Panel.
The problem is not with the cpl file, but with the drivers you installed.

You need to make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card,
then connect the gamepad, then try to manually add the new hardware.
Uninstall any drivers/software you installed for this device previously
before doing this :)
 
Oh geez, you got it all wrong. K first off, i installed the drivers from the
control panel that windows xp provides to see if my controller would work
because the cd wasnt working. So then i tried out the controller, it wouldnt
work so i removed it from the list of controllers connected. So i fixed my cd
with the proper installation to make the controller work. I installed the
program and went back into the control panel to reconnect my controller from
the list. Turns out all the Gravis Controllers were removed, Not by me but
they just dissappeared... So i was browseing through the windows xp help and
there was a fix with the joy.cpl file, so i followed its steps and replaced
the joy.cpl file with a new one from my windows cd. well that didnt fix
anything. left everything as it was so i deleted it and tried it again with
someone else joy.cpl and turns out that didnt change anything. Now i still
have the program from the gravis cd that was provided with my controller
installed but still dont have any windows xp drivers for the controller to
work properly, although i can creat custom controller settings and it works
but the sensitivity is all glitched and wont function properly and it is
missing 2 buttons that are valuable for me to use. Now do you understand my
problem? ya, its kind of messed up. Anyway think you can still help me Nathan?
 
The reason deleting joy.cpl doesn't fix your problem is because it looks for
information about installed gameport drivers in the Registry. Hopefully you
can replace the deleted entries with this and be able to load them up again.
