Considering this as an alternative to the MSI K8N Neo Platinum I was going
for. Don't need the Gigabit Lan, Raid, or 7.1 sound of the MSI.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance

Well, considering that this board is not that much cheaper than K8N and
given that K8N is so highly considered by nearly every site that has tested
it, why not opt for K8N in the first place?

In any event, check the reviews on this Gigabyte board. I seem to recall
one of (if not all) Gigabyte's AMD64/nForce3 boards does not take advantage
of the chipset features (see Anand for more info). I don't know if this
particular board falls under this category but check the reviews to make
sure.

OTOH, there is no doubt that this board does not use the nForce3 250 Gb
chipset.

Good luck.

None of the NForce 3 150 chipsets took full advantage of the hypertransport
link. The 150 version of the board was 8 bits/600MHz. The 250 is 16
bits/800MHz. This is true regardless of the motherboard manufacturer. The
GA-K8NS is the 250 chipset version. The 250 Gb version is for the 939 pin
(FX series) processors, and hasn't been incorporated into the 754- so that's
not even a player.

I'd still go with the MSI board, having built a system on the GA K8NNXP
(150).

MSI K8N Neo-P has the nForce3 250Gb chip and therefore uses nVidia
integrated gigabit LAN; all Gigabyte socket 754 nForce3 boards use the
non-Gb version of the chip, so they have chip(s) running gigabit LAN off the
PCI bus
