Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but
I've no where else to turn....
Has anyone seen a statement of direction for Access?
Moreover, how does it fit into the .NET schema? Any info
or direction would be great. Thanks,
Debbie

Microsoft doesn't reveal all of its plans to us, but I do know that they're
busily working on the next version of Access (Part of Office 12) with one of
the largest development teams they've had in years, and that they plan on
continuing Access past that.

VBA will still be supported for at least the next couple of versions,
although I'd expect to see .Net come into the picture at some point.

I think we should see some .NET compatibility showing up in the next version
(12). Certainly, it will show up in the version after that. VBA will be
supported for at least the next 2 versions. I suspect that current
functionality will be supported long after that due to Access's enormous
popularity. There are over 250 million Access users, making it the most
popular DBMS on the planet.

I'm not thrilled with Ken Getz's willingness (nay, eagerness) to give up
compatibility. I am cetainly not willing to do so, and neither is my
client-base nor my user group constituency.

Frankly, I think the view that you can ignore everything pre-Longhorn-O/S
and pre-.NET for any future product specs must have originated with some
newbie marketing hopeful in Redmond who doesn't understand how even their
enterprise customers work, much less the many individuals and small
organizations who use the bulk of Microsoft's Office and desktop database
software.

I am really surprised that anyone as obviously intelligent as Ken Getz would
buy into that view as wholeheartedly as it seems he has.
