Function =c25=c49

I am using the function (=c25=c49) to return a true or false. The columns I
am comparing in excel are the exact same amount, but the value being returned
is FALSE.
What would cause this?
 
Text versus number, hidden spaces etc

try

=LEN(cell)

on both, if they have the same number then it must be different format

Apart from the suggested possibility of comparing text against number,
pleaase remember that most real numbers cannot be represented exactly in
binary.
http://www.cpearson.com/excel/rounding.htm gives some explanations.
In general it is not wise to check for equality in calculated real numbers,
but instead you ought to check for the numbers being within a small
tolerance of each other.

Have you tried setting the formula in a cell to =C25-C49 and seeing what you
get?
If you see the value of either C25 or -C49, then the other is presumably
being treated as text.
If you see a small number, it sounds like the rounding of the binary
representation.
