(Background: I have two computer systems side-by-side; one is Windows
2000/Pro, running fine for years, and the other is Vista Ultimate, running
fine for days. I have converted the Vista computer to the Classic mode, to
make it appear as similar to the Windows 2000/Pro as possible.)

Question: Is it possible to see the full directory of files and folders,
from the C: all the way down?

In W-2000/Pro, via Windows Explorer, one could easily expand the various
drives (C:, D:, etc.) all the way down, opening lower and lower directories
to see the contents. I have not been able to find a way to do that in
Vista - neither via Windows Explorer or any other starting point.

Best regards to all.

It's accomplished via Windows Explorer's "View" options, just as it was
in Win2K and WinXP.

Thanks ... Right! I had foolishly clicked on "Documents & Settings" first,
and was not allowed to go any farther, and assumed that was true with the
other directories under C:.

Why am I denied access to the files and folders under Documents & Settings?
(Other than that I'm a pretty low-tech guy!)

Thanks again, and any further explanations appreciated.

Best regards.

Because that isn't a real folder, it's a junction put there to confuse you
(and allow older programs to find the path).
Look in the Users folder

Most of the standard XP folder names (My Documents, My Pictures, Documents &
Settings, etc.) are not folders in Vista.
They are junction points to be used by older programs which install to or
use those folders.
ie, the program tries to save to "My Documents", and Vista says "ok, you go
ahead, but I'm actually putting the files somewhere else
(C:\Users\youraccount\Documents)".
