Hi,

Currently using FileZilla which is excellent by the way but does not
preserve the date and time of uploaded files (it does for downloads).

Can anyone suggest a freeware FTP client that can preserve the date and time
of uploaded files please?

Many thanks.

I used to use WS_FTP LE when I was in college (before telephones were
invented...). I seem to remember that it does what you want.

IIRC, I think the date/time stamp on uploaded files depends on the
server as well as the FTP client.

The server must support the MDTM command in a non read only mode to
allow the client to change creation date to the correct time after
uploading - all files are initially uploaded with the current date/time
on the FTP server.

Testing on a server that I have installed which I know supports MDTM,
Filezilla will not try and set the file creation time on the server -
unfortunately, none of the other FTP clients I have installed will
either...

The Pro version does .. LE, unfortunately, does not.

I think FTP Wanderer can do what you want.
http://www.pablosoftwaresolutions.com/html/ftp_wanderer.html

From the help file :

"Preserve local timestamp for uploaded files

Select this option if you want to preserve the original local timestamp
for uploaded files instead of the current timestamp.

The FTP server must support the MDTM command (last MoDification TiMe) to
make this feature useful. Other servers will just ignore the command."

Have you tried SmartFTP? I think it does what you want.

It does, indeed :-)

Funny, but files I upload to my site with Filezilla have the correct
date and time.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Tried SmartFTP but no joy. My server obviously doesn't support this.

Thanks anyway.
