FS2004 flickering screen

Whenever I do anything in FS2004, the screen flickers a lot. It's very
annoying because the screen will go black then be really bright again. Is
there any way to fix this? The resolution of my Radeon 9700 graphics card is
the same for both the desktop and the game. My drivers are up to date as
well. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.
 
When I say "Whenever I do anything" I mean when I open a new window inside
the Flightsim module.
