Hi,
I seem to remember that when creating a sub web on a 2000 server with
FrontPage 2002 that the application entry point or application root
(the place application and session variables are stored) is
automatically generated. Count you tell me under what conditions this
is not true and/or what conditions it is true? I would also like to
know if there has been a change to this on a 2003 server. Are the
conditions the same? If not, what is different?
A URL to any documentation about this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

Paul, the only thing I can say is that most times it works, but there are
times when you have to manually set it.

OK, are there any issues with one that is created manually and one the
FrontPage creates automatically? I know that FrontPage has a
reputation of doing some un-orthodox things, at least with my WPP.
Would FrontPage have a problem in any way with an application created
manually, especially on a 2003 server and IIS6?
Thanks,
Paul

Windows 2003 / IIS 6 has a lot of functions/features disable by default that
offer any security risk, whereas under prior versions you had to manually
disable functions/features.

Paul,

It shouldn't, however as I have indicated Windows 2003 server is configured
by default differently (more securely) than prior Windows Server versions,
where most features were enabled by default.

Under Windows 2003 server, the server admin must manually enable some
features that may have been enabled by default in prior versions.

You might want to post to the Windows 2003 server newsgroup to see if any
one has a list of prior defaults that are now disabled.

Hi,
You keep bringing up how 2003 server is configured differently that
2000 by default and I have no clue how you think this relates. Are
you implying that there is or could be a setting that would turn on
and off FrontPages ability to crate an application when a sub web is
created? If this is the case, I wouldn't no where to begin to know
how to ask a question like that at a 2003 server forum. Please try to
be a little more specific so I can ask them an intelligent question
and not sound like a complete idiot and get ignored. Not that that
doesn't happen anyway, but at this point, I would not know what to
ask.
Paul

Paul,

Yes, it is the server that controls the applications, not FP. FP extensions
can only manage what it is has access to from OD and IIS.

The first question to ask:

Does Windows 2003/IIS 6 manage the Application Root differently from Windows
2000/IIS 5
