Front Page Extensions

I have been working with Front Page since FP98 and now using FP2003 and have
never had a problem with the FP Extensions until now. I am hosted on a linux
server that provides the extenisons and all was well until yesterday.
Everything worked, the forms, the search feature and now all of a sudden I
can't publish nor do those features work on the existing pages. My web host
tells me that the extensions are corrupted and that they have to delete all
of my pages to correct this and re-install the extensions. I have never used
FTP to upload anything, always the publish feature. The error message I am
getting is that I am Forbidden access. Since this is a major undertaking to
re-load everything, I was wondering what types of things might cause the
extensions to become corrupted so that I might avoid it in the future?

I don't think it's something you've done unless you've messed with the
permissions. It could just be that someone monkeyed with the server
permissions and ended up hosing things to the point it's easier to start
over. Normally, when the extensions are corrupt you can simply uninstall and
re-install the extensions and things can start to work again, though maybe
requiring a re-publish to make sure things are working nicely. Deleting
everything is the last resort and normally means that something is just
relaly FUBAR. Chances are, you didn't do anything. The server could have
hiccupped on it's own (which does happen from time to time) or some new
administrator was applying some of the security concepts he just learned
without understanding that FrontPage will need specific permissions to work,
or the host installed some Apache mod that did something to the FrontPage
mod without them really knowing it.

Hope this helps,

Corruptions in the extensions sometimes just happen. Your host is wrong to tell
you that reinstalling the extensions requires them to delete all of your pages.
Talk to someone else in support or change your host, IMO.

Thanks for the replies. I will talk to them some more in hopes that this can
be resolved without deleting everything and starting over.
