Hello -

Please don't laugh at me when you read this question...I
have never seen FrontPage in action, nor do I know much
about it except that it is used for building websites.

My question is this...can you build a website in
FrontPage and somehow "connect" to an Access database to
retreive information? In other words, I have an Access
database that I need to "pretty up" quite a bit and was
wondering if FrontPage can display animated graphics,
flashing fonts, etc...

Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, how to go
about doing it?

Thanks for your help!

Carol

Yes you can connect to an access database.

As for fonts and gifs. Be very careful with flashing font, as flash rates
faster than one second on, one second off can cause Light flicker Syndrome
epileptic seizures in people prone to epilepsy.

As for animated gifs, you will have to create these in an external image
editing program such as Ulead gif animator.

You can do anything you want with FrontPage. However please remember that
FrontPage is a web site/web page authoring, publishing and file managing
program. It is the browser that renders what you have created.

I would strongly recommend you visit a bookstore and buy one of the
FrontPage books written by Jim Buyens or Jim Cheshire.

FrontPage is not a beginners program, but it is easier than any of the
others to learn.

The answer to your question is Yes, and it's actually pretty easy to do.
The thing you need to keep straight is which aspects of your final product
you take care of with Access, and which with Front Page.

In general, it goes like this: Use Access (Access 2000 or later) to
construct the database and get it working the way you want. Then use Access
to create a form that has the user interface you want. Save/export that
form as an HTML object. You are not done with Access.

In FrontPage create the website you want to use. The import the HTML page
you created with Access. Publish the web and it should work OK provided you
have put the Access database (MDB file) in the same relative position on
your web server as it was on your local PC. One way to simplify this is to
use your root FrontPage directory as the place to put the new MDB file you
create with Access in the first place.

Hope this helps.

Carol,

In addition there are other things to consider if you will publish this on the internet.
