Hi

I'l' be needing to do a re-install of XP soon, can I install Win XP (SP1)
and then install SP2 via a CD I got from a magazine without going through Win
update?

Anyone done this yet? Any problems?

Thanks

hi,

you don't need sp1 or sp1a anymore because sp2 includes everything sp1 plus
more.
though, sp1 has the microsoft jvm, sp1a does not.

more info for msjvm: http://dennislazo.com/windows and click on the
appropriate link.

hope this helps.

Hi,

You can go direct to SP2 and bypass both SP1 and Windows Update.

My XP is the version that included the SP1 pack, so I can just install both,
one after the other, and it'll be okay?

Thanks.

SP2 is both, no need to install SP1 at all. If you have SP1 already, SP2 will simply update your system to be the most current, while keeping everything that was SP1 also.

what part of rick and dennis's response didn't you understand? sp1 is
included in sp2, so you only need to install sp2. now i feel like an
complete idiot for explaining it again. i sometimes find it very
disconcerting that i'm forced to breathe the same air...

It's all between your ears, kiddo. :0

Hi,

Sure, but for users that have the original release of WindowsXP it is also
fine to go directly to Service Pack 2 without installing anything else
first.

SP2 includes everything; you do not need bother with SP1, just install
then use your SP2 CD
