Hi,
Merry XMAs...
I'm have a PC running Windows XP Pro...I need to substitute it with
Windows XP Home...When I run the installation CD of the Home...I can do
"New Installation" to substitute an existing version of Windows....but
will I lose all installed programs?
Do any of you know about it? Please any suggestion is well accepted...
Thanks,
L.C.

Hi

You can't revert to XP Home without performing a 'Clean' install. That will
mean all data and programs will be lost from the existing installation.

Luigi,
Windows XP Professional is an advanced version of Windows XP Home.
Therefore if you see logically you are trying to downgrade a system instead
of an upgrade which is not possible though you can format your system and
then do a clean install of the Home version. Why do you want to do this
anyways?? As i said the Pro version is an advancement to the Home version so
it has all the features of the Home version already in it and more. I say
this with no information of your need so please dont mind this. Its just an
attempt to clear any doubts that you may have regarding both versions of the
OS.

Hope this helps

Unfortunately you can't do what you want. XP Home is a downgrade from
XP Pro and not allowed. You'll need to do a clean install.

Why? XP Home is a subset of XP Professional. There's nothing in Home that
isn't also in Professional, so there's no advantage to doing this.

When I run the installation CD of the Home...I can
do "New Installation" to substitute an existing version of

Sorry, downgrades aren't supported, and the only way to get XP Home is with
a new clean installation.

Then you have to do a fresh install.

Yes, you will.

The only way to change from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home is to format
the drive and start over. There is no supported downgrade path or
technique.

Simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll be
offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
