I have a user that is complaining that "some" of the e-mails that he
recieves from outside the organization (SMTP) contain the users e-mail
address 2 times in the FROM field. When he is trying to copy the persons
e-mail addres, it is an inconveinence.

User is using the "Preview" pane and it looks like this:
Joe Someone [[email protected]]<[email protected]>

I have looked around the internet for an explination of how Outlook
displayes addresses, but have not found anything to help me explain to him
why this happens for some e-mails and not others or how to fix his issue.

Can anyone explain why the "Display name" and then 2 addresses are
displayed?

Thanks for your assistance.

Chris

Well, I understand that I cannot change a persons 'reply to' address. I was
just wondering why Outlook displays it different ways for different people.
For me, I see the "Display Name" [E-Mail Address]. I'm curious why some of
the addresses are shown with brackets [ ] and others with angle brackets < >
and some have both.

You cannot control the From field. That's the way the Sender is displaying
his address.

The sender's mail client is the one that controls the format of what you, as
a recipient, see. It is being displayed that way because they sent it to
you that way. Are you saying that some Outlook user is sending messages to
several other Outlook users and each is seeing the From displayed
differently?
