fresh install to boost performance

im getting soon a radeon x800 xt, before installing this ive heard that making a freash install would give a small speed boost to my computer, is this true?
im running xp home on a 3.2 p4.

-even if the performance differance is neglegable is there one?
 
If radeon x800 xt is a board,you dont have a choice if useing hd with
prior install of xp,it'll have to be reinstalled with new board info for
the hd to be used (boot to xp cd,reinstall xp).If its a display adapter,most
suggeat returning board to OEM with nothing but mouse and keyboard inst-
alled,(hence) the card and fresh install arent matted yet.A fresh install of

Studies have shown that for most users a change in overall performance
of less than 15% is undetectable, especially if they were not told
that something had been changed on the computer.

You would need to get a high precision benchmarking program and run a
complete series of tests both before and after the new hardware
install in order to tell.

As the Radeon X800 is a video card it is doubtful that it would
achieve a 15% overall performance gain in total, regardless of how it
was installed.

What you should do is to uninstall the existing video card, using
Control Panel - Hardware - Device Manager then immediately shut down
the computer and install the new one. That should result in a clean
install of the new card and drives with no "hangover" from the old
card; and should be as good as a clean install of Windows.
