On a friend's computer, running XP Professional, the
automated system restore point creation appears to happend
approximately weekly. On my pc, and several others in my
system, this automated restore point generation occurs
approxmately daily. The Windows help, in fact, implies the
daily frequency is correct, but I can find no configuration
setting to increase it on my friend's system.

Anybody have any idea whether this can be done?

Thanks!

Don,

I believe, but am not sure, that the system tries to put down
restore points when the situation on the computer allows it,
i.e. low load. If that computer runs some high-load program
(seti@home comes to mind), it may defer writing restore points
for some days.

This is just one idea. It could be something else.

The system also writes restore points before you install
uncertified software. And you can always write a restore point
yourself whenever you like. I always do that before questionable
software installations.
