freezing

hi there,
i put some anti virus stuff on my computer (avast and mcafee) and they found
some viruses which i said to delete. ever since then my computer freezes
when i first get on, esp. when i'm on hotmail. it comes and goes. i was
wondering if reinstalling windows xp might be ok. so i tried putting the disk
in and it freezes before i can do it. what to do? thanks in advance. i
appreciate it.
 
If you set the bios to boot the XP cd first , put the cd in the cdrom and
the computer immediately freezes , then you problem most likely is hardware
related. Check for a bad memory module or a overheating problem first. JJ

well, i don't know how to set the bios to boot, but boy i'd sure give it a
try if you gave me the word. thanks!
 
After pressing delete after computer starts and entering the bios , scroll
the different menu pages . Since different manufactures produce bios you
will have to check the different pages till you find " boot sequence ". Use
the plus / minus keys to makes change to boot cdrom first. JJ
