Freezing panes - not working??

I'm an trying to freeze my panes, Horizontal only.
However, when I choose the row to freeze, it freezes both
horizontal and vertical, and it's not the row I want. The
same happens when I try to freeze vertical too. It's also
both.

I run Excel 2002 in Windows XP Pro. Am I missing
something? Did I forget to do something? Is there a
glitch?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Kathy

If you select for example a5 and do Window>Freeze Panes
Four rows are freeze

If you select f1 for example
Five columns are freeze

To use freeze panes
1. Unfreeze
2. Place cursor where desired (if at b2 then you will always show col a and
row 1)
3. Freeze panes
If you only want to freeze rows, put the cursor in col A

As simple as possible.

Things to remember:

1] When you select a cell and then evoke FreezePanes,
Everything ABOVE that cell will be frozen,
And everything to the LEFT of that cell will be frozen,
Meaning the cell you selected will be the first cell to disappear whenever
you start to scroll.
2] Never select cell A1 !

Now, if you select A2, everything ABOVE it, meaning all of Row1, will be
frozen and everything to the LEFT of it, meaning NOTHING (no columns), will
be frozen.

If you select B1, everything ABOVE it, meaning NOTHING (no row), will be
frozen, and everything to the LEFT of it, meaning all of Column A will be
frozen.

Finally, if you select B2, everything ABOVE it, meaning all of Row1 will be
frozen, and everything to the LEFT of it, meaning all of Column A will be
frozen.
