Hello Steve,
Thank you for posting here.
I understand that your system will freeze with the shortcut menu open when
you right click a file and choose Send To. If I have misunderstood your
concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know.
To proceed in solving this issue, would you please provide a screenshot of
the error message that you received when installing MSDE 2000. For your
convenience you may send the information to me at (e-mail address removed)
To capture a screenshot:
a. Click the print screen.
b. Open the paint in Accessories.
c. Edit -> Paste
d. Save the file.
Based on my experience you could try the following methods:
Method 1:
I suggest that you first restart the computer in Safe Mode to see if the
problem persists. Safe Mode loads a minimal protected-mode configuration,
disabling Windows device drivers and using the standard VGA display adapter.
1. Restart the computer.
2. Keep press F8 key until the Windows Startup menu appears.
3. Choose the Safe Mode, and press Enter.
Note: In the Safe Mode, your system display and Desktop will look and
perform differently than in Normal Mode. This is only temporary.
Method 2:
If the problem does not occur in Safe Mode, we can now clean boot to
isolate the problem.
A Clean Boot will allow us to isolate any device drivers or programs that
are loaded at startup that may be causing a conflict with other device
drivers or programs that are installed in your computer.
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open text box, type MSCONFIG then click OK.
3. On the System Configuration Utility window, click the Startup tab and
click the "Disable All" button to remove the checkmarks from each line in
the list.
4. Then, click the Services tab, add a checkmark to the "Hide All Microsoft
Services" item then click "Disable All".
Note: This disables all third party service items.
5. Click the OK button and restart your computer when you are prompted.

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/Articles/q310/3/53.asp
Method 3:
Open Windows Explorer -> Documents and Settings -> <the user> -> Send to
The icons in this ¡°sSend to¡± folder are the ones which you can see when
you right-click a file and choose Send to. You may try to drag a file to a
icon to see if it will freeze.
If anything is unclear or you have any other related information, please
feel free to let me know. I am glad to be of assistance.
Thanks and regards,
Alex Zhang

| I'm hoping to get some help with my desktop system at work. Were way to
| small to have an IT department. So I'm kind of it.
|
| Using WinXP Pro, everytime I right click a file and choose Send To my
system
| just freezes with the shortcut menu open. I have to use task manager to
| unlock it. I started noticing this after installing Office 2003 Pro. Any
| help would be greatly appreciated. I have gotten used to using the send
to
| feature over the years.
|
| TIA Steve
