Okay. The reason I asked is that after installing the .NET framework updat
(the newer one of the two), there *is* a stop at the welcome screen o
systems with only one user account. The reason being, a hidden account i
added for .NET framework. Setting up auto logon is a few simple steps an
you're back to booting directly to the desktop.
But the above is a simple stop - not a lockup. Since you're having
lockup, you'll need to troubleshoot this a bit and try to figure out wha
is causing the problem. Troubleshooting startup problems is very similar t
troubleshooting shutdown problems as the trail usually leads back to
driver or a background program. Because of this the troubleshooting guide
for XP shutdown problems at the following site should be helpful:
http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm
Additional suggestions: Check Event Viewer for any information it ca
offer. Try a clean boot to see if the problem persists (no backgroun
programs or non-Microsoft services loading). Create a temporary use
account and log on with it to see if it has the same problems as you
everyday account or not.
