I loaded some PCWorld suggested freeware that would free up ram if available ram reached a certain point. I noticed after a while that screen changes became sluggish, much more than expected. I decided to uninstall the program and things are fine again. Was the freeram program the source of the sluggishness or coincidently was something else. The program was about 1 Mb.

Thanks, I was primarily just curious if the sluggishness could have been created by the new program. I don't think I'll use it again because of Virtual. Thanks Again!

The third party software most certainly was the cause of your problem. XP handles memory very very well and doesn't need any interferance from a third party program. There are some tweaks you can do to help improve the speed of the memory and to make XP faster in this department. SpeedXP is a good program for this. Don't use the "clear pagefile on shutdown option". Good luck. {:~

Thanks

Anytime I load something and things change, I get real suspicious. Thanks for assuring me I wasn't imagining things! I'll try your suggestion asap

[[Don't use the "clear pagefile on shutdown option".]] That's no kidding.
