Is there a freeware defrager for Windows XP that works better than
the one that comes with XP? Thank you in advance for all replies.

I am TERRIBLY cruel to my cat. I tease him with a vine tendril
until he either jumps up in the air to bat at it or zooms around
in a circle until he gets too dizzy to stand up. What is cruel about
it is that I don't do it nearly as much as he wants me to.

Diskeeper Lite works quicker, and you can do other tasks while it is
running. Be advised, however that it disables the native XP defragger.

It doesn't. One cannot schedule defrags with Diskeeper Lite. The full
(paid) version is needed for that functionality.

Hmmph! If there is a product called Diskeeper Lite, I cannot find any
mention of it on that URL. Perhaps it would be better had you provided
a ..... direct URL to the actual download? I am not interested in
commercially sold products, nor am I interested in "trial" ware... Or,
was this the product you had in mind to call Diskeeper Lite?

BUZZSAW defragments only files been modified after DIRMS..

then what is poping up in my tray at times? looks like a diskeeper icon
to me...

DIRMS and Buzzsaw, work together. Run Dirms on all your drives then
after they are completely defragged, run buzzsaw at boot-up and your
disks will never become fragmented.

i clicked the download link on that page and all i got was a file dont
exist error.

allso, this is a kinda old version of the app, as i expected. seems that
both diskeeper and o&o defrag was free for home use at earlyer versions
but have now those versions have been discontinued.

so the question becomes, any recent defrag programs outside of those
listet earlyer in this thread?

I just got around to trying this. I noticed that the download pages
for DIRMS did not work with Mozilla Firefox 1.0.4. I had to use
Internet Explorer to download it.

I am a little confused about when to use defragment and when to use
compact. Should I use defrag once and then use compact and then
repeat or should I defrag several times and then compact?
