Hi, thanx all. My understanding of how a pc works is limited but am trying
all as u suggest, thanx. The problem I'm having is......every week I do a
scan disk and defrag. I've noticed that once defraged since a few weeks ago I
HAVE GONE from over 70% free space down to only under 40%....I don't run any
major software at the moment BUTDO use the internet on ADSL most days BUT
not to any great extent. The only connection I can c is this copying Dig pix
straight to disc...Am I right or is there sumthing else going on..cheers Andy

Digital pictures can be quite large.

HI JIM,

Cheers I realise that the files r big and unfortunatley I can't find them
anywhere on the hard drive 2 delete with the intention of freeing up more
space or is the space now lost forever? I'm afraid my friend copied hundreds
of pix on several occtations str8 from the cam 2 disc instead of creating a
file 1st. :-(

Have tried Disk CleanUp,More Options, System Restore to remove all but
the latest Restore Point?

Hi Mr Cornwell,
Tried that now that u recommended it thanx, but not having much luck, I'm
afraid
:-( Won't restore 2 any previous dates. I realise what may have caused the
problem: my m8 should have saved his pix from his cam 2 a folder then copied
2 disk, once dun he should have deleted the folder. I'm, hopefully, wanting 2
install a CAD program soon and was worried I may not now have the room 2 run
it.

My suggestion was made to increase free disk space by deleting files not
needed. I was not suggesting you try to restore a previous system set up
as this would not help with your situation.

Go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings and
verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked
and "Hide protected operating system files " is unchecked. You may need
to scroll down to see the second item.

What happens to the free space available if you select Start, Disk
CleanUp, More Options, System Restore is to remove all but the latest
restore points?

Right click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select,
Properties, System Restore, Settings. This will give you the amount of
Disk Space allocated to System Restore in terms of % of size of Drive
and megabytes or gigabytes. The maximum is 12%, which is often
excessive. You can move the slider to the left to reduce the size of the
allocation. Once the allocated space is fully taken the oldest restore
point is removed when a new restore point is created ( or it should
be ).

Empty your Recycle Bin. Are you using Norton. Do you have a Norton
Protected Recycle Bin. The size of this folder can catch users out. Read
here for more information:
