I have a problem when working in an application with a
Windows XP OS randomly leaving me the following
message: "Please close some applications to free some
memory and/or delete files from your disk to free more
space!"

I am often only in one application and this system has
two hard drives of which have plenty of hard drive. Any
suggestions.

What is the application? It may have a memory leak.

Also, be aware that it is unlikely to be the only application running.
For example, you probably have an antivirus program running, a
screensaver running (even if it isn't 'active' onscreen), a graphic of
some kind on your desktop, perhaps an active broadband connection, and
who-knows-what-else running. It might be a good idea to buy some more RAM.

You don't say how much RAM you have so what follows may not
apply. XP will run with 256 but prefers 512 (or more) of
RAM. Generally speaking, with XP more=better.

You could disable some of the programs that start when XP
boots but that you don't use. See:

(look under OS Guides in left column of main window)

Check on the way you have your page file set up:

Does this only happen with one particular application? You should check to
see if its memory usage is out of control; one way to check is by opening
Task Manager (right-click the taskbar, go to Task Manager), and clicking the
Processes tab.

As far as disk space goes, Windows might be complaining because there is
enough space on the partition on which your swap file is stored, which is
usually the partition on which Windows is installed.
