would like to know of any free dial up services.
Don't really need it to be a great service. Just need to
be able to login and use it for several minutes at a time.

Thank You

==== free ISP's are mostly gone, and those that are around my be adware
, I suggest paying a small amount per month for cheap, but good ISP , I
use "Mailaka" it's quite good and only $6.95 a month for unlimited use
....
http://www.mailaka.net/ ...... but I live in Florida, you'll need
to check their access numbers to see if you can use them .......or just
ask your friends and neighbors ... but don't get suckered into AOL

Aw shit. Now you gone and dunnit...

WRT your question... I'm unaware of any free to the public dial up
services. The $9.95/mo. variety is widely available. For reasons I won't
take the time to explain, I would stay away from NetZero. The one
service I *have* recommended to others and all are satisfied is
Copper.Net:

www.copper.net

And no, I'm not an affiliate.

Ditto the opinion regarding NetZero, and I also know of no decent free
ISPs. The cheapest, satisfactory dialup without frills or ads or special
browsers that I've used--and am using now--is AllVantage
(www.allvantage.com) at $5.99/month with an additional setup charge of
$4.99 the first month. (Other than being a satisfied customer, BTW, I
have no affiliation, either.) Some info from their website:
------------------------
AllVantage is dedicated to providing the highest quality Internet access
at value prices nationwide. We have pioneered the "self-service" ISP
concept, allowing you to instantly create and manage your account
directly on our website 24x7, 365 days per year. No need to call or wait
for a CD to arrive in the mail. Our service is designed for customers
who understand the value of pure, unobstructed internet access. We do
not clutter your online experience with junk mail, ads or banners.

Privacy: We do not sell your information to third parties, including
listing services. Respecting your privacy minimizes the amount of "junk
mail" received.

Security: All transactions involving sensitive personal or account
information are encrypted using technology from Verisign, the leader in
Internet Security.

Spam Blocking: We can reduce your incoming Spam by over 75% as compared
to others ISPs. We filter both incoming and outgoing email, effectively
protecting both you and other internet users from abuse.

Browsers/Email: Make your own choice! We do NOT require you to use
propriety browsers or email applications. Most customers use Internet
Explorer and Outlook express which typically are preloaded on their
computer.

I've had Copper.Net for years now, initially as my only connection and
now as my backup in case of cable failure. It's been $99/yr if prepaid
for as long as I can remember. I have NEVER had a busy signal nor
problems with disconnects. Very reliable!

Isn't this off topic here?

Not free, but if you live in the northeastern states, look at
VTISP.com. They have a plan for $9.95 per YEAR which allows 20 hours
per month.

I did the Netzero thing when it was 40 hours per month.

I went with that for 18 months.

Now I use one of $9.95 dial-ups and it works fine.

Did you ask Optimum Online? My cable provider has a supplemental dial
up account that gives you 10 hours a month for use while you are away
from home. It is free.

The few freebies remaining seem to be fairly local. Would help if you
gave your location.

Don't think you'll find any good free ones. I've used LA Free Net (based in
Los Angeles), www.lafn.org. It's 50.00 per year with 10 mb web space. They
do serve beyond California, but not sure of the entire area. Wouldn't hurt
to look. They do have downtimes, but usually they are scheduled and of short
duration (like changing a server or something). Note, even though they are
based in LA, they do have 'local' phones throughout California and some
surrounding states. FWIW.
