google began in 1996 and incorporated in 1998. currency conversion is
very recent addition.

dicom (the tool from knowbotron) originated in early 90's. dicom can
evaluate ad-hoc one-liner expression as well as a whole document full
of rich text and embedded calculations - which may be suitable in some
situations.

the great google is of course first to implement the idea with a search
engine and bring to the millions of users.

thanks

google was first.

TI was first. A few of their old calculators could do that sort of
calculation.

I beleive, TI is a hardware calculator.

It is - a piece of hardware running software. Pretty much the same as
a program running in an x86 computer - the number on the chip is
different and the code is different, but it's software running on
hardware.
