Frames or Shared Borders

I'm leaning towards using Frames instead of Shared Border
because I've heard that Frames are more universal whereas
Shared Borders is strictly a FrontPage feature. Is this
corrrect? Also, what are the advantages and disadvantages
of each? Thanks.

Shared borders are implemented as tables and is supported by any browser
that supports tables.

Frames are supported by any browser the supports frames, however create
issues for users of your site, as it is difficult for users to add specific
pages to their favorites, search engines index individual pages, that load
outside of the frameset, so if your navigation requires the frameset to be
loaded, then your users do not have access to it when accessing your site
via a search engine, etc.

Thomas,
Thanks for the info. If they are implemented as tables,
it sounds like Shared Borders are more universal than
Frames and would result in fewer problems.

rather than shared borders you should look into laying down your own tables
and using the include page component from the insert/ web component/ menu.
IMHO

The downside to shared borders is they do not scroll down with the page. However, since I have many long pages, I simply insert a "back to top" link in several places on the page.

Chris,
I like the idea of using my own table. I've never used
the Include page feature so I'll have to do some research
on it. Thanks.
Clive

Wes,
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

what I like to do is make a "perfect page" consisting of just a table (the
way I want them throughout a section) and then put the include pages that
are common throughout the pages into that. then I save it as just temp.htm
and copy and paste it into the folder I need it in, rename, re-title etc.
it works well for me and probably will for you too.
btw the include page feature (IMHO) is one of the best features that
FrontPage has if you use it correctly it can be a real time saving tool and
is worth looking into.
