I have a specific question about displaying a fraction with variables
in a cell. I want to display a fraction with one number above the
other (i.e. not y/x.) In other words I want to have the y on top of
the x with a line between them (not the division symbol.) I have tried
searching the help in Excel, but with no luck. I am using Excel 2003.
If anyone out there knows what I am talking about and can take a
couple of minutes to help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.

I suppose you could insert an Equation Editor object. Equation Editor comes
with Office, but you may not have installed it. If you try it, be prepared for
a struggle. I don't find it particularly "user friendly".

Or you could type the numerator, hold down ALT and press ENTER, type a dash
(may have to insert a special symbol from Character map for this), ALT+ENTER
again for another new line, then the denominator.

Also some fonts have symbols for fractions, i.e. Arial has 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4
