Hi all,
After much pain and suffering (novice that I am!), I finally managed to get
our Win XP Pro laptop to see and share files on our Win XP Home desktop.
Previously the laptop used the desktop as a printer and internet gateway, but
was unable to browse. It also periodically lost the ability to ping the
desktop - a problem solved by disabling the firewalls (Norton IS & Windows
firewall). I now have two questions:
1. How can I get the laptop to connect to the internet thru the desktop? The
desktop is listed as sharing a connection, but the laptop can't see the
server to get emails, and IE brings up the dialup connection dialog box each
time I open it.
2. How can I protect the computers/put up a firewall again without losing
the file sharing/network browsing abilities? Currently Norton Internet
Security is only installed on desktop - the laptop's only got Norton AV.
Many thanks in advance!
