Found New Hardware Wizard

I installed a printer through a USB cable a year ago.
Now I need the USB for a scanner.
I bought a printer cable and hooked it up that way.
I even uninstalled the program, and re-installed it with
the installation disc.
But now I constantly get "Found New Hardware" signs.
Then I get the "Found NEw HArdware Wizard" that cannot
install the printer (even though it knows the make and model)

Besides the fact that the printer is installed and works
just fine. Is there any way to stop this "Wizard" ?
