forwarding a note in Outlook 2000 turns new entries blue

if I forward a note and edit it at all, it forces in a
space before and after what I type and turns the entry
blue.

Why? I didn't want a space and if the rest of the text is
black, I don't want my change to stand out. Can I turn
this feature off?

Someone suggested I try the following:

Go to Tools | Options | E-mail Options and clear the
checkbox near the bottom that says "Mark my comments with".

But I went there and it's already cleared.
Any other ideas?

I was able to change it from blue to black, which is
better (though it would be nicer if it just inserted text
like whatever is around it!) ;-)

But it's still doing that annoying thing of adding an
extra space on either side of what I type. If I notice
that it says

"Happy Barthday to You!"

and I want to correct it, why would it leave me with

"Happy B i rthday to You!" ?
