Hi Everyone,

Okay, Either I am really tired or I am losing my mind. I've created a
parts list for work which has the location of each part, name,
description, quantity, etc... I am trying to track our parts due to
outrageous expenses. I currently just tracking the quantity, and would
like to add a column that tracks used parts which then leads remaining
parts (or something of the sort). The problem I have is that the used
parts will change daily and I don't think I can use a formula, or can
I? Is there a way to transer the used to the remaining, so the used
cell will become blank for the next entry, if so then my next problem
is what to do when (ya, when) the user enters the wrong data...

I'm not sure if I should try something in VBA or If there is a formula
in excel that I could use (newbie)...

If anyone has any suggestions please post:confused:

Thank you very much for your time

Hi Rockee,
A function can only return a value, it can not change the
value in another cell.

Don't know what you have or where you have it, but don't think
of transferring the value to another cell. Look at the cell where you
want the amount to change and think of where to get the
data to be added.

If you have lots of parts to track you'll find that keeping a running
inventory in Excel gets ugly in a hurry. It would be a piece of cake in
Access but if you knew Access, you wouldn't be asking about it nerve. You
may be able to find some shareware on Simer or advertise locally for some
Access help.

Note that you can handle a single high value item readily in Excel by
creating the equivalent of a check register and maintain running totals at
the foot of the sheet or in columns to the right.

From what you say it appears that you need more than just the answers to
a couple of questions. I'll try to help you with it and between you and me
we'll see if Excel can handle what you have.
If you wish, send me a file, via email, with a sample of what you have
so far with an example of what you want to do. Include as much explanation
as you can come up with. Remember that you are the only one who knows what
this thing is all about and what you want to do. Remove "cobia97" from my
email address. HTH Otto

Everyone who posted,

Thanks for the info

Otto, I could send you an example with explanations but, I don't see
your e-mail address anywhere? I have been using this forum for one
month and I'm not to sure where to look...

Thanks

I hope you are using Outlook Express because that is the only one I am
familiar with. With my newsgroup response selected, click on the button
marked "Reply". That will bring up a box for you to use if you wanted to
reply to me direct rather than through the newsgroup. That box will display
my email address as :
(e-mail address removed). Once you have my email address, you can X-out
of that box. Then remove "cobia97 from my email address and send me an
email. HTH Otto
