Formula copy and paste problem

All of a sudden when I copy and paste a simple formula like =H17-E17
from cell G17 into cell G18, the formula bar says the correct formula
=H18-E18 is present, but the absolute value from G17 shows up in G18
rather than the correct value. What has happened?
 
Gary,

Most likely your calculation mode has somehow changed to manual (for
instance by loading a file in which that mode was set).

Tools / Option / General tab and checking automatic will solve that
problem.
