I've got a Dell Inspiron 8500 with Windows XP Professional and it's been
playing up in a variety of areas.

What I want to do is simple, format the computer and start again. In other
words, I want to delete everything, install Windows as well as the drivers
and software that came with the notebook to make it the same as when I first
got it.

Can somebody help me with this because it seems that nomatter where I look,
there is no simple answer to my question.

Thanks,

Benjo

well if you have a XP pro CD...insert and start you PC
there usually is a message such as push XXXX to start from CD
Do that and the XP pro setup will begin....do a new installation and format when
the option presents itself.
IF you only have a "Recovery CD" read the instructions that came with the DEll
on how to use it to restore to "just purchased" condition

Have you tried putting the cd in the cdrom and booting from cd? X
install will start and you can format during install. You'll have to g
into bios and set it to boot from cdrom as first boot option

If you have the restore CD that came with the computer, that is what it
does.
It will put the computer back to shipping condition.
It will wipe the computer and start over.
This is the best choice if you were happy with the manufacturers setup and
you do not want to get into driver setup situations. And, those driver
situations can get involved with a notebook.
