FORMATTING PROBLEMS!

I currently have very important information in a floppy disc that i need to move to my computer. Now, it's old and might be scratched, but i try anyway.
I open "My Documents" and "My Computer".
I tile both windows vertically so i see both windows.
I open my A drive window.
I wait for a while, and a window pops up saying "You need to format the disc. Do you want to format?"

My question is: If i format it, do i lose my information? I cannot lose it! I know it's still there, since I've seen it. Yet I don't know if formating will affect it. Someone please help!!!

I've read the help and it says it will delete. However, is there any way that you can access or format a disc without losig my data? I NEED TO SAVE THE DATA!!!

Formatting WILL wipe it clean. Sounds like the floppy disk is bad, or you
have a bad or dirty drive. Do any other floppys work in the drive? Possibly
try the disk in another computer to test floppy disk. That's all I can think
of.
