Hi, I have used Excel for years and in the past couple of days I have not been able to highlight any fields, cannot format an entire document, i.e., Ariel 10 pt

I have tried on-line help and can't figure out how to resolve. I have even opened new workbooks and continue to have the same problem

HELP!!!!!!!!!! thanks.

A few ideas.

Check all Excel Tools/Options.
Check Windows Display options.
Faulty keyboard.
Faulty mouse.
Scroll lock on.
Faulty monitor/screen display settings.
Installed/amended any software recently ?
Start/Run... Type excel.exe /regserver .... Enter

Thanks for the info. I tried your advice, still having same problem

Can you explain what happens when you try?

Do you get an error message back?

Can you try the same thing on a different pc (with the same workbook)?

And did you type Ariel in the font box or choose from the dropdown list?

If you typed it, try Arial (note the "a", not "e")

When I type anything into a field and want to highlight a
cell, I click on the fill icon and the cell does
not 'color'. I have to go to format every cell and enter
the wrap command. It will not wrap if I highlight the
entire column. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my disk
and nothing seems to change. The font I am using is
Cosmic Sans, not ariel. Thanks.of days I have not been able to highlight any fields,

I don't have a good explanation why things aren't working.

But maybe you could do a few experiments.

Put on that white coat and try opening excel in safe mode.

(close excel)
windows start button|Run
excel /safe
(this starts excel with a bunch of stuff turned off--including any customized
toolbars).

Try some of that stuff on a new workbook? Did it work?

Try opening your real workbook and test it out. Did that work?

If they both worked, then maybe your toolbar is corrupted.

Close Excel
windows start button|find (or search)
look for *.xlb (location and name will vary with versions of windows & excel)
rename them to *.xlbOLD

Restart excel normally and see if that helped.

If it did, then dump the *.xlbOLD and recreate your toolbars at your leisure.

====
Just some followups if none of this helped: Can you format the worksheet using
buttons on a different PC? Can you format a different test worksheet on the
same pc?

I'm not sure if you meant that the problem is excel wide--or just a single
worksheet (or a single workbook).

=======
And I don't think that this will help at all, but it can't hurt:
Close excel and clean up your windows temp folder.
