I formatted my c: and reloaded xp, when the system boots
i now get what appears to be two operating systems to
pick from. how do I get rid of the second one?

It appears that you didn't do a clean installation but instead you did a
"new" installation, which actually means that the system thinks windows is
installed twice on the drive.

You could do the format/install again, but be sure to choose to do a clean
installation.

.. Go to Start > Run and type in: MSCONFIG , and hit enter,
2. Click the BOOT.INI tab.
3. Next, click "Check All Boot Paths".
4. This procedure should correct your BOOT.INI file.

Greetings --

Edit C:\Boot.ini to remove the unnecessary entries.

Manually:

1) Click Start > Run, Type "Cmd" and then press <Enter>.

2) Type "Cd\" and then press <Enter>

3) Type "Attrib C:\Boot.ini -h -r -s" and then press <Enter>

4) Click Start > Run, Type "Notepad c:\boot.ini" and then press
<Enter>

5) Edit the file as desired, save it, and then exit Notepad.

6) Type "Attrib C:\Boot.ini +h +r +s" and then press <Enter>

7) Close the command console.

Graphically:

From within WinXP, Start > Run > Msconfig, Boot.ini Tab > Check all
Boot Paths.

you seem to have created two partitions, one should be
your primary partition,containing your operating
system.the other you could format and use as storage. or
start again with one partition.>-----Original Message-----
