Formatting Hard Drive

Hello:

I purchased a pc at a yard sale. It has XP Pro on it but I
don't want to take any chances so I bought another copy of
the program and want to install it on the pc.

If I put the new XP Pro cd in & run it, will it ask me if
I want to format the hard drive 1st (which is what I want
to do), or will it just over write the copy of XP pro
that's already on there.

My goal here is to start with a clean formatted har drive
then put the operating system on it.

Boot with XP CD.
Follow directions until it gets to the point where it asks "Which Partition
would you like to install on" and at this point DELETE all partition
information. Create a new one, format it with NTFS and continue with the
install. Nothing should be left of the old system that way.
