Hi there!
Every time I want to format such diskettes via the MS tool provided at XP
(resp. in any other MS-OS), I get after a few seconds the blue screen of
death: "System has halted: Hardware failure -- contact your dealer" (lol!!).
So I'm just wondering if anybody else has also experienced this, and how
I could possibly fix it now.
Mind you: in the meantime I downloaded a freeware with this facility and
with it I no longer experience such a crash...but "out of curiosity" I still
would like to try to mend it at my OS...
So thanks very much in advance for any valid response!
Best regards,
Philippe Borel

To format floppies, and other such disks, place the disk in the appropriate
drive and open Windows Explorer. Right click on the disk drive and choose
Format.

I get a BSOD when I try to format a floppy in an older Windows
version, evidently the floppy drive is kaput and causes this effect.
If you have a spare floppy drive try swapping them and see if this
error occurs with the other one.

Good luck
