I just wiped ME off a friends PC and formatted and tried to do a clean
install of XP Pro.
After formatting.... the screen says that XP could not be installed on this
drive! ????
It also said that I should check to make sure that the drive should be
turned on?
Not sure what all this means.
I have done many clean installs and never had this screen appear.
Is the HD bad?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Did you boot with the XP CD ?
All the tools are there for partitioning, formatting and installing.
You may have to boot into the BIOS and set the CD drive to boot before the hard drive does.

Hi Jerry,

How do I boot into the BIOS?
Can't I set the CD drive to boot first thru the set up screen?
I am learning as we go.
Thanks for your help,

Jack

Hi, Jack,

Sorry to be so late getting back,
Usually when starting up, if you will watch your screen closely, it will tell you to press a special key to go into your BIOS.

Sometimes it will be the Del key,
on some machines it could be the F11 or F12 key.

Your owners manual should tell you which one to use.
