Hi

I previously was able to change the cell format to
Accounting and negative numbers were shown in brackets
and since installing the same office program onto WIn XP
where it previously was on Win98, this has dissapeared.
Now it only formats the negative numbers as $-5.00. I
need them for school to be in ($5.00) format. Is there
some option that I have missed in reloading to the XP
system? THere are other missing formats as well but this
is the more important one this semester, next it might be
the statistical formats. Thanks for the help!!

Select the cell(s)
Click the Format menu
Click Cells...
Under Category, select Currency
Under Negative numbers, select the format

If accounting is really missing, you can always create your own format
Format>Cells>Custom

$#,##0.00;($#,##0.00)

There's a windows setting you can change:

The way I'd get to in Win98 is:

Windows Start button|settings|control panel|Regional Settings
Currency Tab|Negative Number Format

In Win XP it would be Start>Settings>Control Panel>Regional and Language
Options>Regional Options. Select your language from the drop-down then hit
"Customize" and "Currency" tab.
