Hi,

Yes, provided the laptop manufacturer can supply you with any needed
proprietary driver files that are needed.

afaik theres no driver difference between pro and hoem editions. even win2k
and server2003 drivers are good. so just backup your stuff before you delete
your partition and have network drivers on usb-drive or something. If you
upgrade, you dont have to worry about drivers at all.

Hi,

Laptops are notorious for using hardware and supporting drivers that are not
found in retail versions of the operating system. Quite often these are
drivers needed for proper operation of things like the touchpad and even
chipsets on the motherboard. For a retail version to correctly operate the
system, you need proper supporting driver files direct from the
manufacturer. Which ones you would need would depend on the hardware used by
the manufacturer. It often helps to do an inplace upgrade to WinXP Pro
rather than perform a clean installation, this way drivers supplied with the
system are carried forward into the new installation.
