I formatted my C: and reinstalled XP (nothing fancy, single boot,
single partition) and everyting worked fine.

But........... now when I start my computer it asks me if I want to
boot Windows XP or PREVIOUS OPERATING SYSTEM on C:

When I pick Windows XP it boots fine. If I pick the other mysterious
operating system, it goes to a blank screen and nothing happens.

I've reformatted and reinstalled windows several times, and this
previous operating system keeps coming up. What could the problem be?

Thanks

[P.S. - I didn't play around with any operating systems or dual boot
systems, only had Windows XP on this computer]

Hi
Well, you did not Format it correctly

If the system you are installing XP on has a hidden partition for recovery
purposes, you may want to delete it as well. If that’s not the case I would
try killdisk or a low-level format utility that will completely wipe the
drive. Then re-install XP.

Good luck

Hello,

You might not have performed a clean isntallation of Windows XP. You might want to boot from the
Windows XP disc and perform a clean installation. More detailed steps are outlined here:
