formating problem with paste-link

I have two workbooks a.xls and b.xls. I open them both up and paste a
row of a.xls into b.xls.

The problem is that the formatting seems to be random in the B.xls
workbook. IE. dates are converted to numbers, number are converted to
dates etc. It does not happen to every cell but it is annoying to have
to change the format of each cell that is incorrect.

I use EDIT, PASTE SPECIAL, PASTE LINK (DEFAULT VALUES)

Is this the correct way to do this? Is there a bug?

Try a paste special > formats after "paste link"?
(it might help)

With the row pasted still selected, do a :
Right-click > Paste special > Formats > OK
