I have been running xp pro on my dell and I have decided
to format the hard drive and do a re install of xp pro.
When I put the cd in and reboot everything goes fine,
however it seems as though the cd runs very very slow. I
have done this a few times before, and when it starts to
copy the install files to the hard drive that usually
takes 30 sec or so. This time it is at 10% and has taken
15 min or so. I tried using a different cd rom drive that
I had lying around, and it does the exact same thing. I
also used a new hard drive, and that didnt change
anything either. Could it have something to do with the
power supply? I dont know what would cause the cd to
install the files so slowly. I even tried another xp cd,
nothing changed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Two things. First, how old is this computer and have you tried letting
it run overnight to see how far it gets? The CD-ROM drives may just be
slow, but you may also want to check its settings. Here is the second
thing, try going into the BIOS and check the settings for the CD-ROM
drive. Make sure it is set to DMA Mode 2 if possible and make sure it
doesn't have it set to PIO Mode or anything.
