Does anyone know how to format the C drive on XP? And if
so, I am assuming that my restore disk will re-install all
the programming on it?
I have got problems that occured with this before I even
bought the computer (new) where java was damaged and more
problems of the same so that whoever tried to repair it
gave up. Jan. 28th was a popular day for it and I did'nt
buy this computer until May... I'd like to format and
clean it up before I re-install, have tried running the
restore disk 4 consecutive times with no luck. XP is
loaded on the restore disk so I do not have the original
XP installation disk from Microsoft. Any ideas?
Win 98 was easy to format, XP is giving me headaches.

Hi Stacy

Is C: your only hard drive? If so then you will lose your operating system
and files. If XP is installed on another volume then you may format C: from
within Disk Management or from a command line.

If C: is your only hard drive volume then you will need to boot from the CD,
and the XP setup program will give you the opportunity to format the drive.
You need to know how to change the boot priority to boot from the CD.

This is not for the faint of heart. Much of it will be done from a DOS
screen, and the drives may be lettered differently or not recognized at all
until the installation is complete.
