NOTE that formatting drives using the XP install disk is NOT an involuntary
action. You must CONSCIOUSLY chose to format, and you must consciously
select from a list the kind of format you want, then you must consciously
choose to start the format, after which you must consciously choose to do
the actual installation of XP.
Just read carefully EVERYTHING you see on the screen during setup, and you
really won't fail, unless it is because of a hardware problem.
In the case of being unable to understand the installation process of XP, I
certainly advise you to take your machine to a PROFESSIONAL technician,
since many jack-leg "techs" will wind up screwing your machine, or you, or
both, royally. So don't take it to a member of the family or a friend,
UNLESS you are willing to pay the consequences, whatever they are.
Some of the "experts" who post in these groups are wacky as all get-out when
it comes to technical knowledge about computers in general, and Windows
specifically.
Take it to a pro if you want to be assured of a CORRECT installation. In
addition, a professional technician will probably provide support in the
case you have problems after the installation. Many shops do warranty their
labour and materials.
