I just got a Samsun SP1213C SATA card and PCI ATA
controller card. I installed them and both show in
Windows Device Manager and both say they are working.
However, I can't find the drive anywhere to even format
it or copy files to it. How do I start utilizing the
drive?

Control panel, administrative tools, computer management, disk management.

I went to control panel, but there's no administrative
toos or disk management to be found, anything else?

Right click on Mycomputer and select Mange. Once Computer Mangement shows
up, select Disk Management.

C: being the system drive, Format will likely be grayed out in Disk
Management. Just do the reinstallation of XP and format when given the
opportunity.

Gary, by the other posts you see how to get to Disk Management. When in
the Control Panel, if you would have clicked on Performance and Maintenance
you would then have the Administrative Tools choice. Or if you would have
clicked "Switch to Classic View" you would have found it also.

I am having a similar problem. I installed a Hitachi
160gb S-ata drive. My MBoard supports the drive with the
promise fastrak raid controller. It is showing the
controller and the drive in device manager but the drive
does not appear in disk management or windows explorer.
How can I access the drive to format and use. Also can I
use this drive as my system drive and still have IDE
drives installed? Help please....

Are you using the "category view" in control panel? Switch to classic
view...

The biggest question is: Does it show up in the BIOS? You may need to
enable it in the BIOS as well. If it shows in the BIOS, it is Windows
that is having the problem. Now you need to install the latest chipset
(motherboard) drivers for your computer. Then it should pick up those
controllers and the hard drives. Now they should appear in Disk
Management (Start-Run-compmgmt.msc-Disk Management). You should be able
to partition and format from there.

Also, double check and make sure that everything is plugged in properly
insdie the computer. It is easy to forget the power cable or not push
the IDE\SATA connector on all the wsy.
