- Pop in your Win2000 CD.
- Set your BIOS so that the machine boots from the CD.
- Turn on the PC.
- Pretend to install Windows 2000.
- When prompted, allow the hard disk to be formatted.

You will, of course, lose all data stored on the disk.

I have found the best way to format the computer is placing the disc in the
drive, but using the 4 floppy discs, as it sometimes fails if you only use
the Windows 2000 disc, but never from the floppies.

Not trying to be argumentative (really I'm not), but in my experience I don't
think I've ever been able to create the 4 floppies successfully on the first
try (usually one is corrupted). Whereas I've never once had any issue using
the windows 2000 CD. Just my experience obviously.

I agree. Furthermore, the Win2000 CD is readily available
whereas the boot disks need to be manufactured and are,
on average, a lot less reliable than a CD. Perhaps Crouchie's
CD drive is a bit marginal.

I'd have to agree with part of your observation, at least. I've
*never* seen a legitimate Win2K CD in good repair fail to boot a
compatible system, so I've never even had to try to create or use the 4
Setup diskettes.
